Ever run into someone you know, but haven’t seen in years? Ever find out that you almost did, since you were both in the same public place, perhaps at different times?
Technology has opened up the way that I keep in touch with these types of people. They are the ones who I will extensively IM, exchange e-mails with, and on occasion, engage in a Skype conversation. This form of contact is often reciprocal. However, an awkward gap remains in between, where we’ll be in the same city every so often, but never make any attempts to get together. In fact, the topic is almost avoided, taboo, though we’ll talk online about how we’re home and enjoying our time so far.
What gives?
