anti-green, but against global warming

Trees are fantastic. They produce oxygen, which coincidentally, we need. The oceans are great too – people vacation on beaches. We eat seafood. There is a plethora of recreational activities that take place in large bodies of water (scubadiving, sailing, emergency vehicle landings, expeditions around the known world into unknown territories, Discovery Channel documentaries). Then, there’s the practicality of being green — conserving energy and water (thereby saving money as well), hybrid cars and alternative fuel sources, recycling, greenhouse gases, air pollutants, water pollutants, saving space due to overabundant landfills.

Yet, the green initiative has prevented me thus far from finding a video camcorder that runs strictly on disposable batteries. A friend is traveling to another continent soon, to a rural, natural environment for the next three months. She will not be near many consistent electrical outlets, and needs a way to record a good majority of her stay.

We were looking at solar batteries too, but we’re not well-versed in the matter. Our combined amount of common sense tells us to not traipse off and spend hundreds on solar energy panels or “rechargers” that might not be compatible with any random camcorder.

What are your suggestions? She leaves in early June!

  1. i haven’t heard of any solar batteries, but if i do i’ll be sure to let you know. btw, that is an excellent idea to have solar batteries. just lay them out in the sun and they recharge.

regarding the whole green movement. i can see it just becoming another marketing ploy. here in america it’s all about marketing. i do believe in the green movement on the grassroots level, but corporations seem to be riding the whole green movement and coming out with new products to market… shame on them. hehe…
