I get more out of giving away candy these days than seeking it out, but couldn’t resist buying a glowstick axe for $1.00:

The eerie green light was similar to the ones used on past Halloween nights while grasping a pillowcase steadily filling with sweets. I readily recall the nervous excitement trembling through my small frame as I approached a neighbor’s doorstep, always a timid little girl. The best candies were snack-sized Musketeers, Gobstoppers, and Lemonheads. We didn’t keep to the residential blocks either, but traveled to the small businesses surrounding our grandparents’ home a few cities over.
My mother and aunt laboriously inspected each candy, envisioning drugs, poisons, sharp objects, and other sick cruelties plaguing our sugary bounty. My cousins and I poured our treasure onto the table with enthusiasm, laughing and bartering between bites, our progressively stickier fingers consciously kept away from tabletops and our costumes lest we ruin them.

What were your favorite Halloween treats?

I didn’t get around to decorating my house this year. I *love* Halloween, but life got in the way. However, I did get my daughter out for candy that I will, of course, help her get through. Because a good mom helps her kid in any way she can…
You’re a rad mom- love your blog! What did your daughter dress as for Halloween?
