About

What is the meaning behind the name ‘Chi Speak’?

Chi (pronounced chee) is a life-long nickname from my closest friends. The word also refers to the “vital force believed in Taoism and other Chinese thought to be inherent in all things.”

Chi Speak is a personal blog about philosophy, psychology, writing, drums, technology, and everyday life. It begins with my sophomore year in college and continues through to the present. The details of our lives may differ, but our basic hopes, emotions, fears, and instincts remain the same.

I started Chi Speak in 2006. Now, I am in my mid-20′s and figuring out how to balance my personal life and professional career. Where will I be in the next few years? Let’s find out. Join me as I speculate, learn, and blog.

Some details:

  • Chinese/Italian American. 25 years old. Currently living in one of the greatest cities in the world.
  • Self-sufficient since I was 19 years old.
  • Billiards shark who will take your money, then beat you in air hockey and Tetris at the same time.
  • My home is where my best friend is; he and I began dating in 2003. We live in an urban nest filled with musical instruments, board games, laughter, and books.
  • 2010: MA degree in Counseling. I am also certified in Personal Money Management and K-12 School Counseling with a specialization in College Advising.
  • 2008: BA degree in Developmental Psychology and Philosophy.
  • My career path is in higher education. I work with and for students, and love it.
  • Past experience in therapeutic foster care with adolescents diagnosed with multiple psychological disorders, geriatric residential care with patients diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and at-risk, Title I high school populations. As a counselor, I prefer a combined approach utilizing person-centered and cognitive behavioral methods.
  • I managed and edited a collegiate literary magazine and a Philosophy journal. Now, I write to express realistic optimism and beauty in the human experience by reflecting on struggles, triumphs, and the mundane; it’s all fair game.
